Who can believe we’re welcoming in 2021 today? With last year being somewhat chaotic you might be hoping for more familiarity in the coming year. Perhaps you’re thinking about re-establishing routines that understandably might have slipped. Today, folks all over the world will be seeking motivation to commit to their new year’s resolutions. Yet for many, these resolutions will be the same ones made year after year; destined to be dropped before spring arrives. I can’t help thinking that we’re doing something wrong.
Let’s look at the word resolution more closely to help us gain some clarity. "Resolution" comes from the Latin "Resolvere", which means to loosen, undo or release. The “re” indicates repetition. It literally means to loosen and release again and again. It’s telling us that our resolutions should be a process of breaking things into simpler forms.
In place of being hard on yourself for finding commitment difficult, be kind to yourself this year. Allow yourself to relax, to soften, and accept that if you've given up in the past, you'll likely give up again!
Why not set yourself "intentions" rather than resolutions. You might find these easier to keep. Intention comes from the Latin, "intentio," meaning to have purpose, or literally, to "stretch towards” - suggesting we move slowly and allow softness to come – much like we would do in our yoga or meditation practice.
To make intentions suggests we partake in things which aid our self-growth. Perhaps we replace unhelpful habits with more helpful ones. A new year’s resolution can often feel like self-denial, which may lead to guilt if we slip up. After all, will-power is not without limits.
Bring your attention to your energy body as you work with your intentions. Focus on your “why”. You may need to ask yourself “why” several times until you really feel it in your body. You’ll know when you’ve found it. (You might feel peaceful, or excited, or a knowing in your heart-space or lower chakras.)
Then, take a moment to feel how an “I should” feels to your body. Chances are it doesn’t feel great. No wonder we find it hard to stick to our resolutions when they don’t match our vibration. Find intentions that feel good and you’ll be more likely to commit to them!
To help you work with the power of intention, we’d love to share an exercise from our Prosperity Chakras course. It’s a worksheet designed to help you do your best to meet your new intentions and commitments for 30 days. After 30 times of doing something new, it starts to become a habit. To make use of this worksheet, go here and print it out!
If one of your intentions is to feel more abundant and to let go of old patterning around prosperity, read on to find out about our upcoming Prosperity Chakras course. Previous participants tell us it’s life changing!
